A bank of spring flowers - what could be nice and more peaceful? But there are unseen forces at work. Even in this tiny, idyllic space, the wind comes. How strong will it be? How hard will it blow? Which flowers will survive? The idea of something sinister combined with something gentle appeals to me very much.

This image is one of several of my prints where I find myself drawn to the idea of distortion, a subtle reshaping of the actual geometry of the image, as if the geometry of some small part of the world were going nightmarishly haywire.

This detail shows how the flower forms are slightly abstracted and somewhat distorted. The forces at work on them -- wind? Or something stranger? work their will on each blossom and on the bank as a whole.
