Preparation for iceboat races starts at first light. DN's At Dawn conveys the dreamlike feeling of the very early morning, as the first skipper goes to his boat and starts working toward the race to come. The semi-darkness, the silhouettes of the boats and skippers, the still quiet contrasts vividly with the brilliance and action of the day's racing.

This image is is produced on a 24 by 21 inch sheet; the giclee image itself on the print is 19 by 16 inches at 128 dots per inch, leaving a 5-inch border for easy framing and matting. It is printed from a 2432 by 2048 pixel, 21.8 megabyte master file.

This detail shows the treatment of the image as a contrast between silhouetted shapes in inky darkness and cool, quiet areas of monochromatic background color. The rough edges are like an ink wash or like the edges of East Asian calligraphy.
