What hides in the forest? What moves in the forest that we do not see? indeed, perhaps that we cannot feel, but only sense? This image uses geometric and shape distortions to evoke the hidden powers at work behind what we can see, hear and feel, the mysterious powers that sweep through the world of nature for good or for ill, beyond our human conceptions of good and evil.

This detail shows both the geometric and the shape distortions at work in the image. There is color distortion at work here as well; the natural colors of autumn are shifted into an angry, terrified mode.
